Record-breaking elevator systems are advancing vertical transportation as Otis earns a Guinness World Records title for two SkyRise elevators at Tianjin 117 in China. Designed for extreme building heights, the elevators combine high-speed travel with connected monitoring and specialized engineering to improve passenger comfort and operational reliability.
The 597.2-meter tower will feature 266 Otis elevators and escalators, including double-deck systems that accommodate passengers on two levels. Some elevators will reach speeds of 12 meters per second, while sound-insulated cabins help manage noise and air pressure. Otis ReGen technology also captures braking energy and returns it to the building's electrical grid.
For Otis, the achievement demonstrates its capabilities in large-scale skyscraper projects and strengthens its position in vertical transportation. Building operators could benefit from improved passenger movement, reduced space requirements, and proactive maintenance supported by connected monitoring systems.
