Uber black has recently launched a quiet mode for drivers in the US, aiming to appeal to those looking to travel in silence. The new feature is a way to request minimal conversation from your driver and will be available for those requesting an 'Uber Black' or 'Uber Black SUV.' Users have the option to select 'quiet preferred,' 'happy to chat' or 'no preference.'
Quiet Mode is part of a new Rider Preferences launch for Uber Black. Other features include allowing riders to indicate when they have luggage and need assistance, as well as temperature controls for the vehicle. Additionally, Uber Black is now required to wait at least 15 minutes upon arrival before canceling on riders; however, riders will be charged for wait time after five-minutes.
Uber produce manager Aydin Ghajar stated that quiet mode "is something that people have been asking for for a long time." Uber also predicts this feature will be popular among women riders who may feel uncomfortable with male drivers being overly chatty. While Uber may not be able to fully enforce adherence to the preference, drivers who ignore the request could face harsh ratings from riders.
