Fifty Shrinks is a photo series, put together by New York City-based photographer and psychiatrist Sebastian Zimmerman, that captures psychotherapists and psychoanalysts in their private offices. Zimmerman got the idea from the project while building his own practice in Upper West Side Manhattan; he realized that while his patients shared their most intimate thoughts and feelings, his role required him to be detached.
The photos show the offices and furnishings of each therapist to be very unique. They convey that while the offices are home to the psychic disturbances and catharses of patients, they are first and foremost the abodes of the psychotherapists who spend their entire working life there.
Each photo in the series is accompanied by interesting passages containing thoughts and reflections of the subjects.
Fifty Shrinks is available for purchase on Zimmerman's website and on Amazon.com.
