AI-Fueled Sustainable Product Series

SPACE10 and oio studio Add AI to Products of Place

The ongoing Products of Place series ex an exploration of how AI can help designers make products more sustainable. It is by SPACE10 and oio studio -- the duo unveils a series of conceptual dinner plates that could be made from materials that are from different places in the world. It is shown through an interactive map to help AI understand how to find local plentiful materials in consideration of local industry, transportation, food cultures, and more.

Creative & Planning at SPACE10, Alexandra Zenner explains that “The plates range from beautiful to a bit bizarre, highlighting both the opportunities and limitations of an AI-powered design process as it exists today. Human curation is still required to decide which concepts are good and should move into development. This new AI integration isn’t perfect – and we want to be transparent about the weaknesses of these platforms, as well as their strengths."
