Accessible Train Interiors

PriestmanGoode Created a Fleet of Trains with Accessible Designs

PriestmanGoode created a fleet of accessible trains for the Canadian rail transport company VIA Rail Canada. The new trains are called Corridor and intend to be an accessible environment for all passengers with comfortable seats and spacious footwells.

Corridor trains will travel through the Quebec City to Windsor route. This route spans one of Canada's most industrial regions, giving a large number of people an accessible train-travel opportunity. Some key design elements include onboard wheelchair lifts as well as five mobility aid spaces. Clear wayfinding devices are installed in each carriage, like glowing overhead screens, and clear seat numbers overtop each chair for maximum visibility. Moreover, information is also written in braille for visually impaired passengers.
