Plantible Raised $4.6 Million in Seed Round

Plantible is a new plant-based food producer creating whey and dairy protein alternatives and was founded by Maurits van de Ven and Tony Martens. The brand uses a small aquatic leaf named duckweed to extract a plant-based protein ingredient that enables food companies to produce vegan products from animal-based products.

Plantible offers a unique value proposition many of its competitors lack — duckweed, the fast-growing and easily-digestible protein that allows the business to be more cost-efficient and scalable. Thus far, the brand sells a jar of liquid egg whites for anywhere between $15 to $20 dollars, while their profit per bottle is $7 to $10 dollars. However, the brand hopes its recent funding will help scale down costs and increase profit margins.
