Residential Transformative Yacht Apartments

Michael K. Chen Architecture Designs the Pied-å-Mer

MKCA, which stands for Michael K. Chen Architecture is the mind behind the Pied-å-Mer retreat. It is seemingly a 600-square-foot apartment that is resting along a residential yacht. It is perfect for a holiday retreat for two or expands to house a family of four as well.

Using the firm's knowledge of design for small spaces, it highlights multiple functions and references Le Corbusier's admiration of mid-century steamship design to come up with this transformative function. It is able to convert itself with the incorporation of fold-up beds or dining tables that can collapse in order to maximize space. The main living space has two ribbed pod-like structures that organize the space with two bathrooms and storage areas.
