iFart, the hot new iPhone app, wants to pay you $5,000 for the most awesome commercial you can create. That's 30 to 60 seconds of fartastic sounds that are released from your equally awesome sphincter. Fantastic. The iFart developer Joel Comm says that he makes $10,000 a day from the app; on Christmas Day alone, however, iFart made him $30,000.
Implications - Crowdsourced competitions like this are a cheap and effective way for companies to achieve two things at once: on one hand they raise consumer awareness about their product, and on the other they get a wealth of ideas from thousands of people who participate. No business should underestimate the advantage of a clever crowdsourced competition.
