Phillip K. Smith Designs the Reflection Field for Coachella

Contemporary artist and designer Phillip K. Smith created an intriguing installation called the Reflection Field for the most recent Coachella festival. The Reflection Field is a series of free-standing structures constructed from several mirrors and bright LED lights that seamlessly blend into its surroundings.

The Reflection Field uses the combination of LED lights and mirrors to give off an identical reflection of the festival surroundings. The entire installation is comprised of five individual pieces measuring roughly 18-feet by 17-feet wide. Because of the precise nature of the reflections, the Reflection Field seems as though it is invisible and actually a part of the background. During the day, the Reflection Field projected mirror images of the festival surroundings. At night when there wasn't enough light to show a reflection, the LED lights inside lit up in technicolor hues.
