Phil Elverum would be excellent as the cinematographer of a horror movie. After all, he's able to naturally bring out the creepiness of locales using nothing more that the lens on his camera. Some of these locations would not even be threatening if it weren't for Elverum's masterful manipulation of the still frame. There's definitely talent behind these images.

What's also admirable about Phil Elverum's work is the variety and eclectic nature of his locales. From cozy houses and foreboding roadsides to snow-covered forests and staggeringly tall mountain tops, Elverum is able to morph all these interesting places to fit into his overarching theme of dreadful imagery.

Fans of these photographs may purchase them at Phil Elverum's online store. Be prepared though as the images are so large in size they engulf entire walls.
