Autobiographical Wood Chairs

Personal Histories Alters Wooden Seating into Narrative Sculptures

Personal Histories is a furniture collection created by Chilean designer Camilo Huinca under his studio ONLYJOKE. The series consists of sculptural wooden chairs and benches that incorporate carved figures, painted imagery and expressive forms drawn from the designer's personal experiences. Faces emerge from backrests, human figures are integrated into structural elements, and hand-painted details add narrative layers across the surfaces. Individual works carry titles including Rider on a Broken Horse, Partes Rotas and Confluencia, reinforcing the autobiographical themes behind the collection.

Wood serves as the primary material throughout the series, reflecting memories of Huinca's childhood summers in Chillán, Chile. The pieces combine carved components, painted finishes and exposed hardware to create furniture that functions as both seating and sculptural artwork. A modular construction system allows the chairs and benches to be assembled and disassembled.
