Unilever is Launching a First-of-Its-Kind Laundry Packaging Design

Unilever is preparing to launch the first-ever paper-based detergent bottle for its OMO brand (also known as Persil, Skip and Breeze.) The laundry detergent bottle design represents the joint efforts of the Pulpex consortium between Diageo, Pilot Lite, Pepsico, GSK Consumer Healthcare and Unilever.

The bottle is made from sustainably sourced cellulosic pulp with a proprietary inner coating that repels water. The bottle is designed to be recycled in paper waste streams and reduce the need to depend so heavily on plastic. Unilever is aiming to cut its use of virgin plastic materials in half by 2025.

As Diageo is planning on launching the first paper whiskey bottle with the same paper-based packaging technology, this technology is making its way beyond the world of beverages and into home goods and cosmetics.
