Earlier this year, DreamWorks Animation and Oriental DreamWorks successfully released Kung Fu Panda 3 as part of a joint partnership between the two studios. Claiming the title of China's top-grossing animated film, the partnership demonstrates the growing economic and creative ties between the US and China.
Unlike other animated films released in China, Kung Fu Panda 3 was the result of a unique partnership between American and Chinese filmmakers. Not only was the film designed by artists from both countries, but it was also the first film to be animated in two versions so that the characters' speech was synced to different languages. The film even included separate casts of American and Chinese actors to appeal to different audiences.
With China set to become the world's largest film market by 2017, it is clear that films coproduced by American and Chinese filmmakers are in high demand.
