China is doing a lot to prepare for the Olympic games next month, including sprucing up the aesthetics of the city. These giant topiaries are a fantastic example of the tremendous effort being put forth to make an awe-inspiring impression on the world. The Beijing Olympic Gardens include bushes sculpted into giant green athletes, hands with cascading waterfalls and even life-size pagodas.
When I was in Beijing last summer, a year before the Olympic games, I was already astounded at the abundance of immaculately kept gardens, both private and public. Considering China's dedication to providing the public with beautiful floral presentations in general, it seems logical that they would put even more effort into creating gardens like this when they host a global event like the Olympic Games.
