Google Australia now houses old monorails in its Sydney offices, which they have refurbished from their abandoned state. What began as a joke from Google engineer Paul Cowan about installing the cars as a shuttle between spaces soon became a reality--sort of. While the monorail does not act as transportation, the cars are currently being used as unconventional meeting spaces and conference rooms. The old monorail was also repainted to have a vibrant, under-the-sea theme.
The Sydney Monorail took the car out of rotation in June 2013 after having been in service for 25 years. The cars were lifted into the second storey offices using a crane to get it through the windows.
