American architecture studio The Ranch Mine created the Noir Peaks house, which is a holiday home in Northern Arizona. The house is defined by its gabled black forms that appear to be vertically rising from the ground. Noir Peaks is found in the town of Flagstaff, which is known for its pine forests and aspen stands, as well as a vast volcanic field -- the last eruption was about a thousand years ago.
The team explains, "Three gabled forms burst vertically from the ground to form the massing of the home, echoing the volcanic mountains dotting the plateau." The house's walls are clad in fiber cement and then painted to match the lava rocks that are on site.
