At the No.1 Common exhibition, designers Andu Masebo, Daniel Schofield, and Anna Maria Øfstedal Eng challenge conventional ideas of ‘premium’ wood by presenting furniture crafted from No.1 Common hardwoods—grades marked by knots, color variation, and grain imperfections. Hosted during 3daysofdesign by the American Hardwood Export Council, this showcase elevates character-rich boards typically overlooked in Europe.
Masebo’s dynamic Around Table features curved red oak segments that can be reconfigured daily, intertwining material quirks with social adaptability. Schofield’s modular Common Room system uses cherry with butterfly joints, turning blemishes into design features that speak to both function and visual depth. Øfstedal Eng’s sculptural Kontur series carves yellow birch to reveal organic patterns and layered tones, celebrating material narrative over perfection.
