Nick Van Woert Puts an Unconventional Spin on Sculptures

— May 4, 2011 — Art & Design
Sculpture Nick Van Woert has created unique series of busts that could be seen as a headache, so to speak.

The busts of iconic sculptures are revamped into two separate pieces. One is the mock-up of the original, and the other, a wire stand that holds chunks of the statue’s head into place. The viewer gets a look inside the inner cranium, which exposes bright color. The first two sculptures done by Nick Van Woert are simply untitled. However, my favorite piece -- the all-black bust -- is entitled ‘Things I Don’t Remember,’ which is slightly different from the first two.

Nick Van Woert composed the sculptures of fiberglas, polyurethane plastic, gravel and steel.

These cranium-cracking busts are an eerie, yet fun, twist on traditional art.
