Founded by Dell, NextWave Plastics is a coalition of companies hoping to keep "plastics in the economy and out of the ocean." With members like HP and IKEA, this coalition stands to make significant strides in plastic recycling and ensuring these materials do not end up in delicate ecosystems. Other members of Nextwave Plastics include bureo, General Motors, Herman Miller, Human Scale, Interface and Trek.
HP and IKEA are the newest members of the coalition and have already launched their own initiatives to fit into NextWave Plastic's goal. HP is currently developing a way to work with ocean plastics in its supply chain, while IKEA is exploring how it may use ocean plastics in its furniture development. Other companies in the coalition have used reclaimed plastic to create products ranging from skateboards to carpet tiles and even an office chair.
