National Geographic's ‘Sun Pictures' Captures a Year in Sunshine

The National Geographic ‘Sun Pictures’ collection is a series of analemma photos taken from around the world.

Analemma is the name given to the figure eight path that the sun appears to take in the sky over the course of a year, and the first one ever made (between 1978-79) is even featured in this National Geographic ‘Sun Pictures’ series.

As photo-editing technology continues to advance however, so too is the means by which these photos are created. The second photo in this gallery for example, was taken over the course of the year 2010 and features a digitally composited foreground.
