The practice of incorporating unexpected icons into interior decor has become a fashionable one, leading to the lighthearted design of items like this Nanton Coat Rack. Inspired by the enormous metal structures that line highways and link suburbs, this quirky piece of foyer furniture fulfills a very different task from its original.

Palette Industries created this front door fixture as part of its Nuance/Nuisance line of furnishings, in which public irritants are reclaimed and reinterpreted. With an admiration for the strength, sturdiness and grace of the great metal frameworks, the designer deemed it suitable for presentation in posh domestic spaces.

The scaled-down Nanton Coat Rack embodies a latticed intricacy of chromed hand-welded steel, and minus the power lines, performs as an impeccable set of clothes hooks, pegs and slings for arranging jackets, scarves and bags in the home.
