Feline Disease-Focused Partnerships

Morris Animal Foundation & EveryCat Health Foundation Partner

Morris Animal Foundation and EveryCat Health Foundation have partnered to address an outbreak of a new strain of feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) in Cyprus, a serious disease caused by a type of coronavirus. This collaboration is co-funding a one-million-dollar research initiative, which aims to diagnose, treat, and prevent the spread of this dangerous mutation, which has affected a larger number of cats than typical FIP cases.

Led by Dr. Gregg Dean at Colorado State University, the international research consortium will study the outbreak to develop solutions for both local and global cat populations. The Cyprus outbreak, which surfaced in early 2023, alarmed experts due to the high rates of severe illness and death.

The initiative also highlights the importance of research-driven approaches in animal healthcare and showcases the joint strength of the two foundations in addressing urgent health crises.
