Monumental Artist Tribute Murals

Owen Dippie Honors Basquiat with a Six-Story Portrait

New Zealand artist Owen Dippie is bringing monumental artist tribute murals to New York City with a nearly six-story portrait of Jean-Michel Basquiat. Positioned on Par Excellence's Bowery flagship, the artwork reconnects the celebrated painter with the neighborhood where he once lived and worked. Dippie combines traditional realist painting methods with large-scale street art to create the detailed tribute.

Inspired by a 1982 photograph taken by Gianfranco Gorgoni, the self-funded mural overlooks Jean-Michel Basquiat Way. Completing the project required two years of coordination, with Par Excellence securing permission from building management and the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission.

For Par Excellence, supporting the installation reinforces its commitment to craftsmanship and New York's artistic community. The collaboration demonstrates how design businesses can contribute to neighborhood cultural preservation while strengthening their connections to historically significant creative spaces.
