Twin Olympic Cauldrons

Milano-Cortina 2026 Cauldrons Will Feature Dual Flame Displays

The design of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic cauldrons marks a first in Games history by planning two synchronised flame installations: one in Milan’s Arco della Pace and another in Cortina d’Ampezzo’s Piazza Dibona for the opening ceremony. Each cauldron will be independently lit yet coordinated to symbolise unity across the geographically spread host cities that include Milan and the Dolomites. These paired focal points align with the Games’ co-host model and expand ceremonial visibility beyond a single site during the February 6, 2026 opening festivities. Milan and Cortina’s sites were selected to reflect both urban and mountain landscapes integral to the Winter Olympics experience.

Alongside the cauldron design plan, the Olympic torch for the Milano-Cortina Winter Games — titled “Essential” and conceived by Studio Carlo Ratti Associati and Cavagna Group — exemplifies a minimalist, reflective approach that directs attention to the flame itself. The torch features a long, tapered shape available in blue-green for the Olympic relay and bronze for the Paralympic relay, with recycled aluminium and brass alloys and a visible burner element through a longitudinal opening.
