Michael Fennell is an artist who uses a medium in his work that is unlike many other methods.

Fennell uses smoke to create images and portraits. He has been doing this for about 16 years and has found a special technique to manipulate smoke onto panels while still being careful not to burn down his studio or his work. Smoke cannot be painted, rubbed, sprayed or altered in any other way, which makes his work even more fascinating. Fennell meticulously and artfully creates these designs making him a figurative painter specializing in portraiture. However it is challenging to create such realness in these large scale images.

While viewing these images, one may have a hard time believing that they were created with smoke, yet that is what makes Fennell’s work not only beautiful but inspiring.
