Rolls-Royce Marine, NTNU, SINTEF Ocean and DNV GL are working on a joint industry project for the integration of an open marine simulation platform that will facilitate cooperation and innovation via digital twins. The ultimate goal is to set an industry standard and better the efficiency, as well as communication within the industry.
Building on the concept of digital twin tech, the marine simulation platform will consist of the repeatedly updated digital presentation of a vessel in its entirety. Since digital twins integrate AI, machine learning and software analytics, the open marine simulation platform will gather data over time and, as a result, visually represent an up-to-date model of the ship -- "from engine performance to hull integrity."
In summary, using digital twin tech within the marine industry will mean that there will be a new foundation for collaborative model sharing and co-simulation.
