The 2012 Madrid Christmas Lights Design is Bright and Geometric

Every year in Spain, the government commissions a new artist to design the Madrid Christmas lights as a way to brighten the streets with innovation during the holiday season.

This year, this magnificent light design is the product of Teresa Sapey. The lights are all energy efficient LEDs, inc ase you were about to cause an uproar for excessive energy use. They line an upscale neighborhood named Call Serrano, which is known for housing high fashion stores and designer boutiques.

Sapey founded her architecture studio in 1990 and used this opportunity to bring warm colors to the cold winter streets. Using colors like orange, pink, purple and red off set the colder blues to make the circular lighting designs really stand out. Instead of using traditional lines or rows of lights, Sapey designed the Madrid Christmas lights in rows of circles.
