Ma Yansong's art sculpture installation is located in a rural tea field in China. The piece is called 'Light,' and it is reminiscent of a large lantern. Yansong, the founder of MAD architecture studio, wanted to use his lantern-inspired piece to project the connection between art and architecture.
Standing in a tea field on the top of a hill, the installation is an undulating lightweight steel structure. Clad in translucent fabric, Light shields a small copse of trees. During the day, the trees are visible through the sculpture's fabric. By nightfall, the artwork is lit up like a giant lantern. The simplistic piece is also functional, as it provides a shaded pavilion for visitors to rest.
