In an effort to reduce the operating costs of law enforcement, the Los Angeles Police Department will receive 100 BMW i3s and help contribute to becoming a more eco-friendly operation. The electric vehicles will be used for routine tasks such as patrol because they aren't quite suited for high-speed pursuits or extended range coverage.

The BMW i3 is capable of traveling 186 miles on a single charge, which makes them a suitable option for reducing emissions and fuel needs in Los Angeles.

Although some might question the move to provide the Los Angeles Police Department with the expensive BMW vehicles, the fuel and energy savings are purported to be the main reason for the need. They have been obtained on a three-year lease and will help to reduce taxpayer money spent in the long-term and help contribute to California becoming more eco-friendly.
