Sentimental Cityscape Depictions

Liz Brizzi Captures Urban Locales Rich in Mood and Character

I often neglect illustrations depicting city environments because it's difficult to find an emotional resonance with those kinds of works, but that's not the case with these Liz Brizzi creations. Though she chooses water towers, buildings and power lines as her subjects, Brizzi's mixed media paintings encapsulate mood and atmosphere so well that they may as well be still frames from a Wong Kar-Wai film.

These magnificently moody works of art are inspired by Downtown Los Angeles, but feel extremely familiar to viewers who live in any sort of urban area. Perhaps it's this familiarity coupled with suggestive color palettes that make these entrancing images so easy to connect with.

A great artist often opens his or her viewers' eyes and minds to new perspectives and ideas, and that's exactly what Liz Brizzi has done for me.
