Soccer Player Mosaics

Lionel Messi by Charis Tsevis is an Artistic Tribute to Sports and Spain

Lionel Messi "is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a forward for Spanish club FC Barcelona and captains the Argentina national team," according to Wikipedia. So it is only natural that people would want to pay tribute to this phenomenal athlete. Lionel Messi is the muse behind this particular mosiac series, which not only honors the sport of soccer, but also the city of Barcelona, Spain.

Created by Charis Tsevis, the Lionel Messi series depicts the player in a variety of poses. Each pose is impressively made out of broken pieces of decorative plates and tiles. Tsevis shares, "The technique is also called pique assiette. In French this means 'one who eats from others' plates.' I really love this phrase and this concept. Art is nothing else as reusing elements from nature or other's creativity to create beauty, to communicate messages or to express ideas."
