The Huawei P20 Pro is often praised for its three-camera setup, but the new Light Smartphone prototype is hoping to cause phone-camera-envy with its nine-camera setup. Light, previously a camera manufacturer, has been developing this prototype for some time and aims to release the multi-lens phone later in 2018. The goal of the Light Smartphone prototype is to create a mobile device with the same capability as standalone camera setups.
According to Light, the multi-lens Light Smartphone will be capable of shooting up to 64-megapixel photos and promises better low-light photography performance and depth effects. The nine-camera setup may also leverage the same technology used in the Light L16 camera which can capture multiple photos at different depths and focal lengths.
The evenutal release of the Light Smartphone will most likely continue to escalate the ongoing smartphone camera arms race.
