Lay's Potato Chips Will Remove Artificial Flavors and Colors

— October 10, 2025 — Marketing
Lay's potato chips have announced a major recipe change that will see the snack product touting a free-from formulation by the end of 2025.

The brand will eliminate artificial colors and artificial flavors from its signature snack products by the end of this year, and will instead use natural flavorings to achieve their signature tastes. This includes using spices, fruits, vegetables, yeast, herbs, plant material, meat, seafood, poultry, eggs and dairy products, while the colors will be achieved with ingredients like vegetable juice and paprika. The recipe update comes as part of a wider movement in the category away from artificial colors and flavors in response to changing FDA regulations.

The reformulated Lay's potato chips will also showcase a refreshed branding that includes a more rustic aesthetic and a brighter logo to stand out more prominently on store shelves.
