Glass-Lined Plastic Beverage Bottles

The KHS Supreme Bottle Delivers Glass-Like Performance

The KHS Supreme PET bottle system has been unveiled by the KHS Group as a new packaging solution that prioritizes a next-generation functionality. The bottle starts off with the brand's Plasmax barrier technology that includes a transparent layer of silicon oxide that coats the internal wall and will deliver a glass-like lining that's less than 100nm in thickness. The packaging is projected as being particularly relevant for the Asian and European markets for tea-based drinks where rapid oxidation requires an advanced solution.

Product Manager for Barrier Technology Philipp Langhammer spoke on the KHS Supreme PET bottle system saying, "Our barrier system is ideal for premium products that have to satisfy the highest requirements. By preventing oxygen ingress and CO2 loss, the Supreme bottle ensures that “fresh-from-the-factory” quality is maintained throughout the supply chain."

Glass-like Internal Coatings
Sub-100nm silicon oxide linings deliver glass-equivalent inertness in PET, significantly lowering oxygen ingress and flavor degradation.
Premium PET for Oxidation-sensitive Drinks
Specialized PET systems are emerging to preserve 'fresh-from-the-factory' quality for tea and carbonated beverages across long supply chains.
Barrier Technology for Extended Shelf-life
Advanced barrier stacks combining Plasmax and other coatings are shifting shelf-life metrics by preventing CO2 loss and oxidative spoilage.

Industries Being Reshaped

Tea and Ready-to-drink Beverages
High-sensitivity flavor profiles in tea-based drinks stand to gain longer marketable life and consistent sensory quality from glass-like PET linings.
Packaging Materials and Coatings
The development of nanometer-scale inorganic barriers is redefining material value propositions by bridging plastic cost-efficiency with glass performance.
Cold-chain Logistics and Retail
Retail chains and distributors may experience reduced returns and inventory losses as extended-barrier bottles maintain product integrity without strict refrigeration.
