Artistic Imperfect Pearl Jewelry

Joy Bonfield-Colombara Showcases the Beauty of Imperfect Pearls

Based in the United Kingdom, Joy Bonfield-Colombara is an artist and goldsmith committed to showcasing the beauty of imperfections. The jeweler looks beyond the traditionally perfect white orb of a pearl, including unique moody hues and asymmetrically shaped pieces. Inspired by the sea, her work intertwines Jung's theory of the sea as the unconscious. This resulted in a surrealist and sensual style of jewelry.

The playful designs use asymmetrical silhouettes with the pearl at the front and center of each piece. Bonfield-Colombara aims to debunk the "standardized way in which we have been marketed and taught to perceive [pearls]." To do so, the artist loops the treasures on gleaming curves that graze the jawline when worn as earrings.
