These beautiful shots are by one of my personal favorite photographers Jolijn Snijders, and like all of Jolijn Snijders images these captures do not disappoint.
These images portray androgynist youth in a dark and moody light. Drenched with feelings of deep thought and heavy decisions, the kids in the images appear to be dealing with mature adult-like situations, which leaves the viewer feeling sympathetic. The loneliness which is being so accurately depicted in this series is also strongly felt.
In keeping with her running theme, Jolijn Snijders photographed teenage kids smoking, hiding and possibly crying for this personal series. The photographs are taken in what seems to be the middle of a lonely night and several images are black and white.
In my opinion the most striking Jolijn Snijders images are the ones that feel the most lifelike. In this series, the image of the very skinny boy who is shirtless and leaning back into the shadows with a cigarette loosely hanging from this mouth is the most alluring. The staleness of grey smoke lingering in front of his face is pure perfection.
