The Y-3 Spring/Summer 2020 collection embraces urban culture by drawing inspirational cues from the aesthetics of Japanese motorcycle gangs.
Yohji Yamamoto has always been very particular with the direction he takes Y-3 in. Previous collections tend to be monochromatic, with asymmetrical and clean-cut silhouettes that subtly nod to the avant-garde movement. The highly anticipated Y-3 Spring/Summer 2020 drop is no different, however, the designer is a little bit more specific with his inspiration, tying the garments to urban heritage.
The clothing is informed by Japanese motorcycle gangs which are identified through the Bosozoku subculture. This is realized through numerous graphics — the 'Roaring Black Crow,' for example, "references both Yohji Yamamoto's early nickname and the clamor of bikes."
