Art projects don't just have to look pretty or be simply imaginative and creative; instead, they can open minds and impact daily lives like the Invasive Crochet series. This art installation was created to challenge gender roles by softening hardened city surfaces. In this case, lace doilies have softened the harsh razor wires found around New York City.
Cleverly created by Crystal Gregory, the Invasive Crochet art installation was put together for the 14th Street public art show Art in Odd Places.
I see the Invasive Crochet art installation as challenging freedoms of all kinds and the harsh realities that can be found around the world and in our own homes. The Invasive Crochet project shows that we can always step up and make a difference.
