The human-animal hybrids of Crystal Morey isn't what some people might expect. After all, there have been renditions that are much more dark and creepy. Instead, these human-animal hybrids are much more serene and even meditative. Sitting calmly as though about to begin a yoga class, they appear to be young children wearing animal costumes.
Based in California, Morey explores the relationship between humans and nature through her human-animal hybrids. She writes, "Today every action has a reaction we can see: in climate change, de-forestation, ocean acidity, and the hunting of animals. All of these actions are causing havoc and leading us to an unsustainable environment. I try to show the stresses in our cohabitation through making sculptures of humans, animals, the environment, and the delicate dependencies we share."
