Drew Mandel Architects renovated the 'House in The Beach,' a 100-year-old home located in Toronto, Canada, for a couple who felt that the semi-detached house no longer reflected their lifestyle. The clients wished to reinvent the home to better express who they are.
The architects constructed a new box that leans towards the lake, imbuing the house with character that is synonymous with custom home renovation. The home seeks to celebrate the home's illustrious history, as well as its owners, with additions such as open shelving decorated with personal objects, a mobile kitchen island and steel support beams that connect new and old elements of the home.
In terms of the exterior, the house features a new facade and entry leading into the transformed ground floor plan, which has been optimized for natural light and sociable family life.
