One Heart and Hassell Design the Hope Village in Tanzania

Hassell works in collaboration with Australian-based charity organization One Heart to create the Hope Village, which is a community center located in Tanzania. It is defined by its 3D-printed design which replaces the usual construction of layered concrete. It is made using locally sourced soil for an ultimately sustainable solution. The Hope village is a part of an expansive plan that the team aims to offer resources such as childcare, school, housing, and care to train youth.

Mark Loughnan, Principal, and Head of Design at Hassell shares “The Hope Village community hall design seeks to create a beautiful, functional, safe, and uplifting environment that provides both hope and education for vulnerable girls. The hall is a welcoming space that creates an innovative central activity hub connecting with its surrounding environment. The design and building process for the hall aims to engage the community and provide ongoing opportunities for local participation and education throughout construction.”
