Right now there are two standard virtual reality head set designs -- one envisioned by Oculus Rift and duplicated elsewhere and a much cheaper version by Google that is still very similar to the more official product. It was only a matter of time before a company decided to step in and shake things up; namely with a Hoodie VR Headset that will turn people into futuristic Robin Hoods.
Artefact has conceived not only a Hoodie VR Headset but also a more traditional-looking design that works as its opposite. Dubbed Shadow and Light respectively, the first focuses on the private experience of virtual reality while the latter is much more inclusive. Markus Wierzoch, the lead designer on the project, explains that "its immersion allows us to enter new worlds. But that immersion comes at the cost of inclusion — the people around us can’t join in our experience. Virtual reality is inherently asocial," writes Fast Co Design.
