HD digital radio developer iBiquity Digital Corp. recently announced that IMER (Instituto Mexicano de la Radio) upgraded all of its FM stations to digital HD broadcasts.
The Mexican broadcast group hopped on the digital bandwagon soon after it was approved by the government back in 2011. Beyond digitizing its stations, the group has began transmission of two new HD2 and HD3 channels per station. Digital General at IMER Carlos Lara Sumano explains, "In order to take full advantage of HD Radio Technology, we are beginning to produce specific and special programming for our growing audience on digital radio."
The move to digital HD radio means that more Mexican listeners will have access to high quality music streams, greater choice in content and interactive features.
