Chrome OS first had a Google Assistant release approximately two years ago, which was for the Pixel book. However, the company has created a new Google Assistant experience for Chrome OS. Following the initial release to the Pixel, Google Assistant started a limited release, with the functions coming to some chrome devices. Since then, Google has changed the source code management to make Google Assistant enabled by default.
This new change is scheduled to come with the release of Chrome OS 77, which means all Chromebooks that can run the software could have access to Google Assistant. However the Google assistant release is not finalized, as Chrome OS 77 is scheduled for a September launch. This means that Google could change its decision between now and the launch date.
