Goal-Based Banking Apps

Simplii Pairs the Simplii Account with Cash Folders

Simplii Financial is adding the 'Simplii Account' and app folders for DIY banking clients who want to split one balance into separate money buckets. The setup lets users earmark cash for bills or an emergency fund in the app, and the folder pilot begins this month.

The same pilot includes a payment backup feature designed to step in on certain transactions before they trigger insufficient-funds fees. Simplii is also linking accounts with CIBC Investor's Edge so that clients can make self-directed investments from funds in their Simplii account.

The 'Investor's Edge' link turns a daily banking app into a hybrid of cash management and DIY investing, broadening Simplii's pitch beyond basic daily banking. With nearly two million clients, folder-based budgeting inside the bank app itself moves a fintech-style control feature into a bank-owned digital channel.
