This alcoholic gingerbread layer cake is one way to welcome the fall season back into your life. Created by Izy Hossack from Top With Cinnamon, the cake recipe features a salted whiskey caramel topping. Of course, for a virgin version, you can also forego the booze for a standard caramel sauce.
The homemade gingerbread layer cake is syrupy and dense in texture, with a brownie-like richness to it as well. This boozy dish is recommended for snacking, as an "informal tea-time treat" compared to a fancier occasion.
The recipe is slightly adapted from April Carter's cookbook 'Decorated.' To recreate at home, you will need black treacle, brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, crystallized ginger, flakey sea salt, ginger, golden syrup, nutmeg and whiskey whiskey among other ingredients.
