These geode wedding cakes show life-like stone and mineral replicas made from edible ingredients.
The popularity of these unusual cakes was started by cake designer Rachel Teufel who's cake was all-white, except for a large imitation amethyst that created a ridge in the side of the cake. Similar bridal cakes are now being created and displayed on Instagram by different designers, with a variety of colors and types of stones being replicated to create this unusual effect. Most of the cakes that replicate this "stone-like" effect have sparse designs -- with the mineral replicas being the main feature.
The popularity of geode wedding cake styles is unsurprising, as the design does not require more than sugar to replicate the effect and the result is an extremely unique cake that is sure to impress wedding guests.
