The GOE, which stands for Gastronomy Open Ecosystem, designed by BIG and BAT Architecture for the Basque Culinary Center, redefines how architecture supports gastronomy, culture, and community. Spanning 9,000 square meters, the building rises from the landscape as a gently sloping green roof that merges the city with its surrounding hills. Terraces and open courtyards extend the structure into the public realm, while a covered plaza at street level connects directly to the Camino de Santiago, inviting visitors into the space.

Inside, a central “Gastro Hall” links research labs, kitchens, classrooms, and event areas within an open, flexible layout. Glass partitions reveal the work of chefs and researchers, emphasizing transparency and collaboration. The use of natural light, greenery, and tactile materials reflects the center’s focus on sustainability and innovation. The GOe establishes a new model for educational and cultural architecture rooted in connection, openness, and shared creativity.
