Skilled Trades Educational Programs

The Lowe’s Foundation Increases Investment in Gable Grants

The Lowe’s Foundation has significantly expanded its efforts to address the skilled trades labor shortage by increasing its investment to $43 million through its Gable Grants program. This initiative supports community and technical colleges across 28 states, funding scalable training programs in high-demand fields such as construction, HVAC, electrical work, plumbing, and property maintenance.

The latest round of Gable Grants will benefit 12 additional institutions, bringing the total number of recipients to 60. These funds will enable colleges to develop new curricula, enhance existing training facilities, and provide financial assistance to students, including tool stipends and tuition support. Notably, Texas State Technical College will use the grant to equip a large Construction Technology Center, while Ivy Tech Community College will introduce a Building and Property Maintenance Technician program. Other institutions, such as Florida State College at Jacksonville and Los Angeles Community College District, will focus on addressing local workforce needs, including disaster recovery and large-scale infrastructure projects.
