Frontier Inference Clusters

Etched Unveiled Its Frontier Inference Clusters

Etched, a startup founded in 2022, introduced its Frontier Inference Clusters, full systems built around its custom AI chip designed to accelerate AI inference, featuring custom racks and integrated software. The company said TSMC manufactured the chip earlier this year and that it has begun customer testing of the bundled systems.

Etched also reported $1 billion in contract bookings for the clusters and disclosed it has raised $800 million to date, including a previously unannounced $500 million funding round that valued the company at $5 billion. The clusters combine custom chips, rack infrastructure and software optimizations to deliver lower power consumption and faster inference than general-purpose GPUs, according to the company.

The platform targets model-serving workloads, aiming to reduce inference costs and latency for enterprises deploying large AI models at scale.
